Job Summary
Supporting the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Research, Development, and Technology, the full-time Technical Writer will research, write, and edit a variety of technical documents, ensuring clarity and compliance with federal publishing standards, while working remotely with occasional travel for client engagements.
Key responsibilities
- Research, write, and edit original content for technical reports, newsletters, and other communication products
- Collaborate with engineers and researchers to translate complex technical concepts into accessible narratives
- Provide substantive editing and ensure compliance with style manuals and accessibility requirements
Required qualifications
- 5-10 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, and publishing
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
- Expertise in applying the GPO Style Manual and ensuring Section 508 accessibility compliance
- Experience in the transportation sector, particularly highway or surface transportation research
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust clearance
