Job Summary
To support a dynamic health information management team, the full-time Texas Licensed Outpatient Coder I will review and interpret health record documentation, identify diagnoses and procedures for coding, and maintain coding proficiency while working remotely with flexible hours.
Key responsibilities
- Reviews and interprets health record documentation to assign appropriate codes for outpatient services
- Maintains adequate production and abstracts relevant information from patient medical records
- Stays updated on coding guidelines and maintains coding proficiency through continuous education
Required qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent with completion of ICD 10 and CPT Coding courses, or an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information Technology/Administration
- One year of experience in acute care hospital outpatient coding preferred, or no experience required with relevant degrees or certifications
- Certification as CCA, COC, RHIT, CPC, or RHIA is required within 12 months of hire
- Proof of completion of a coding program or internship is required
- Basic knowledge of electronic health record systems and automated coding methods is preferred
