Job Summary

Supporting the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System, the full-time VA Licensed Medical Records Coder will perform coding for inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory surgery cases, ensuring accuracy and compliance with official coding guidelines in a remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review provider documentation and assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes according to coding standards
  • Complete initial coding within five calendar days and maintain a 95% coding accuracy rate as measured by audits
  • Initiate and resolve provider queries for unclear documentation and participate in regular meetings with HIM staff
Required Qualifications
  • Current active coding credential from AHIMA or AAPC (e.g., RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CPC)
  • Minimum of two years of professional coding experience at a comparable VA medical center
  • Formal training in anatomy, medical terminology, and coding conventions (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS)
  • Proficiency in Oracle Health coding workflows and the Solventum CRS encoder
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a favorable VA background investigation
