Job Summary
Conducting fair hearings for the Human Services Board, the full-time Vermont Licensed Hearing Officer will manage evidence intake, rule on procedural issues, and provide legal recommendations on appeals related to various public benefit programs, primarily in a remote setting.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct fair hearings, take evidence, and make factual findings and legal recommendations
- Manage the appeals docket efficiently while adhering to statutory guidance and requirements
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, support staff, parties, and attorneys throughout the hearing process
Required qualifications
- Must be admitted to practice law in Vermont or be eligible for admission
- Demonstrated experience in hearing management and legal decision-making
- Competence in substantive legal areas relevant to appeals
- Ability to deal effectively with a diverse range of litigants
- Independence in performing duties impartially and respectfully
