Vice President of Underwriting

Job Summary

Driving the underwriting strategy and portfolio performance, the full-time remote Vice President of Underwriting will own the underwriting P&L, lead the Field Underwriting organization, and shape the future of underwriting operations while collaborating with executive leadership and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Own loss ratio outcomes and drive underwriting strategy in partnership with executive leadership
• Design and manage the blended onshore/offshore underwriting model, ensuring quality standards and performance accountability
• Build and lead the Field Underwriting organization, focusing on recruitment, development, and performance management

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree; advanced degree preferred
• 15+ years of workers' compensation underwriting experience with accountability for portfolio results
• 10+ years of experience leading underwriting organizations, with a focus on building or restructuring teams
• Experience in technology-forward environments, such as InsureTech or innovative carriers
• Strong executive presence and analytical fluency in interpreting loss data and portfolio trends
