Job Summary
To support the payroll department's tax-related functions, the remote Virginia Licensed Payroll Tax Accountant will prepare and remit various tax returns, provide guidance on withholding tax matters, and coordinate with third-party vendors while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and remit federal, state, unemployment, and local withholding tax returns, ensuring accurate reporting and minimal penalties
- Support payroll personnel on withholding tax issues, including reciprocity agreements and manual check entry
- Audit wage and withholding information for accurate W-2 reporting and assist with inquiries from employees and HR
Required qualifications
- 10+ years of payroll tax/accounting experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent technical training
- Experience in an in-house payroll environment
- Comprehensive understanding of local, federal, and multi-state payroll tax regulations
- Advanced MS Excel skills
