Job Summary
To support a data-centric transformation in healthcare, the full-time Virginia Licensed Senior Coding Specialist will independently review and accurately assign diagnostic and procedural codes to encounters while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Perform validation of Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRG) reviews and maintain coding accuracy and productivity
- Review electronic and scanned medical records, ensuring proper documentation and coding alignment
- Interact with physicians and educators to obtain necessary medical input and communicate coding recommendations effectively
Required qualifications
- Current unrestricted credentials as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Advanced knowledge of ICD-10 codes and the DRG classification system
- Proven experience in inpatient hospital coding and clinical documentation auditing
- Ability to apply relevant ICD-10 coding guidelines for appropriate MS-DRG assignment
- Strong written communication skills for summarizing medical facts and coding principles
