Vision Scientist

Job Summary

To support the Division of Ophthalmic Devices at the FDA, the remote Vision Scientist will conduct scientific and regulatory reviews of ophthalmic devices, focusing on evaluating safety and effectiveness through comprehensive assessments and collaboration with expert teams.

Key responsibilities

• Review total product life-cycle actions related to ophthalmic devices, providing recommendations based on technical expertise
• Assist in developing and evaluating guidelines for data submissions related to medical devices
• Present findings and recommendations to scientific review panels regarding the safety and effectiveness of medical devices

Required qualifications

• Doctoral level degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., D.O.) in a relevant field preferred, or a M.S. with extensive experience in ophthalmic devices
• Minimum of 10 years' experience in fields directly relevant to the Vision Scientist position
• Research experience with human participants, particularly in clinical trial design and management involving ophthalmic devices
• Background in visual psychophysics, visual optics, and optical instrumentation
• Experience authoring and evaluating communications with Regulatory Agencies is desired
