Volunteer Crisis Counselor
Job Summary
To support the 24/7 Crisis Line at the Suicide Prevention Center, the part-time Volunteer Crisis Counselor will provide active listening and verbal support over the phone to individuals experiencing emotional distress or suicidal crises.
Key responsibilities
- Provide compassionate support and crisis intervention over the phone to individuals in distress
- Complete a 6-week training program and ongoing education to enhance crisis counseling skills
- Commit to a weekly 4-hour shift for a minimum of 12 months to ensure consistent support on the Crisis Line
Required qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Basic computer competency and fluency in English required
- Ability to communicate effectively over the phone using spoken English
- Willingness to participate in a comprehensive training program and ongoing education
- Access to a reliable computer, internet, and a quiet space for taking calls, either in-person or remotely
