Job Summary
Supporting the engineering efforts of a materials development team, the remote contract Weld Engineer will manage weld development activities, including laboratory testing and manufacturing process development for sodium-cooled fast reactors.
Key responsibilities
- Interface with project teams to provide welding configuration and methods guidance for reactor development programs
- Develop weld designs and specifications using fundamental welding engineering principles for reactor design and licensing
- Perform scientific analysis of test data and generate technical reports to validate models of material and weld performance
Required qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of related experience with a B.S. degree or 2 years with an M.S. degree; or equivalent experience
- Degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related technical discipline is desired
- Experience with weld engineering for new design and determining geometries and weld methods for welded components
- Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1 and ASME Section IX is highly desirable
- Thorough understanding of metallurgy, including welding and heat treatment of ferrous and nonferrous alloys
