You’ve probably been slogging through a slew of dead-end call center, receptionist or business development jobs all day. I’m glad you took the time to read this job ad (it’s a little different than the others).
The job you’re applying for will REALLY matter to our company. We’re a small video engagement company and we need your help to grow!
We’re not a churn-and-burn operation where we’re hoping to squeeze the life out of you for a few months or get as much out of you as we can until you quit.
So without further ado, here are some things you should know about this job:
What’s Great About This Job

We’re not breathing down your neck all the time. You’re not 5-years-old so we don’t treat you like it.

Our Skype chats are a lot of fun (often including dancing monkeys).

Excellent stepping stone job. We want you to work here as long as possible BUT we’re a small company and try to support you in your goals right now (even if it’s paying off debt, buying a house or going back to school).

Work for a Christian company. That means we work really hard to be upfront and honest and flat-out don’t work with some scammy projects you might be otherwise stuck with working for some other companies.

Your job title will be Engagement Consultant, because your big task is getting people connected with our research on industry topics, trends, metrics and outcomes (with the hope being, after they see our research, they’ll turn into a customer).
What Stinks About This Job

There’s a lot of rejection. (Not the hang-up-in-your-face kind, but the ‘no thanks’ kind)

You’ll have to make calls early (8am ET) and late (5-6pm ET). Unfortunately this part isn’t flexible.
Signs You’ll Hate This Job

You don’t like talking on the phone. (HINT: this job has a LOT of talking on the phone).

You hate email. (The only thing you’ll do more than talk on the phone is answer email).

You feel like follow-up is a waste of time. (Many people you get success with will be after 8, 9 or 10 contacts).

You’re worried about “being a pushy caller”. We never want to be rude jerks, but we’re connecting people with valuable stuff and so you can’t be squeamish about calling.

If you hate your house, you’ll hate this job. (Remember, you’re going to be working from home).
What you’ll be doing:

Taking a list of companies we think we should be presenting to and finding their contact info.

Using software like InsideSales.com and Close.io to track what the people say. Oh and let’s not forget Skype to message with fun emojis.

Calling and emailing random strangers to schedule them for research presentations, do surveys or contact book execs for an interview.

Following up A LOT! You’ll be tempted to think “I’ve called this person a ton of times, they don’t want to talk to me” but odds are good, they’re just busy.
