Yiddish Linguist

Job Summary

To support sensitive law enforcement work, the part-time Yiddish Linguist will perform real-time and recorded transcription from Yiddish to English, capturing accurate written products and communicating pertinent information to law enforcement personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Listen to live or recorded communications in Yiddish and produce verbal and written transcriptions as required
• Communicate relevant information to law enforcement personnel in a timely manner during live monitoring
• Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to required formats

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one year of translation experience in Yiddish
• Knowledge of Yiddish colloquialisms, slang terms, and regional expressions
• Ability to achieve a score of 3 or better on a third-party language assessment in English and Yiddish
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
