AI and Genomics Principal Investigator

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time Director-level Principal Investigator in AI and Genomics, this role will establish and lead AI innovation efforts, focusing on building population-scale foundation models and managing a research group while securing external funding.

Key responsibilities

• Set and own the scientific vision for AI at the organization, translating it into research output and funding
• Lead a research group, beginning with the recruitment of founding scientists and expanding as funding allows
• Represent the Institute's AI work externally and secure grants, philanthropic, and industry funding for group expansion

Required qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Computational Biology, Statistical Genetics, or a related field with at least ten years of experience post-PhD
• Strong record of academic publications or equivalent industry achievements in machine learning applied to genomics or biomedicine
• Deep expertise in modern deep learning architectures, including transformers and large language models
• Proven ability to build and mentor teams of scientists and secure external research funding
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience with distributed training and computational efficiency
