Assessment and Authorization Specialist

Job Summary

To support the Department of Energy's mission, the remote Assessment and Authorization Specialist III will oversee comprehensive assessments of security and privacy controls, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead comprehensive assessments of security and privacy controls to evaluate their effectiveness and recommend corrective actions for identified deficiencies
• Prepare detailed security and privacy assessment reports outlining findings and recommendations for review by Team Leaders
• Oversee the assessment of controls in accordance with approved assessment plans and manage initial remediation actions on deficient controls

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or four years of equivalent professional experience
• Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in security control assessments or cybersecurity evaluations
• Strong understanding of NIST Special Publication 800-53 security and privacy controls and federal cybersecurity frameworks
• Demonstrated oversight experience with Security Assessment Teams and related roles
• Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance and complete a DOE background investigation
