Associate Editor (Contract)

Job Summary

Managing the editorial process for four seasonal issues, the remote Associate Editor (Contract) will oversee relationships with freelance writers, proofread and fact-check content, and contribute to story ideation for Adventure Cyclist magazine.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the editorial process and maintain relationships with assigned freelance writers to ensure deadlines are met
• Proofread, line-edit, and fact-check all text for each magazine issue
• Contribute to story and issue ideation, including writing occasional short-form pieces as needed

Required qualifications

• Previous editing experience at a magazine, particularly in long-form narrative journalism and shorter pieces
• Strong copy-editing skills with fluency in both Chicago and AP styles
• A passion for cycling, with experience in bikepacking or bike touring highly desirable
• Proven ability to manage freelancer relationships and meet deadlines independently
