Backend Engineer for Distributed Systems

Job Summary

Owning the storage and query engine for a data lake, the full-time Backend Engineer for Distributed Systems will manage ingestion pipelines, indexing, and multi-tenant isolation while ensuring performance and correctness in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the storage layer of the observability data lake, including ingestion pipelines and indexing
• Enhance the query engine through distributed planning, execution, and cost model optimization
• Design encodings and sketches to maintain affordability of millions of series while ensuring correctness and observability

Required qualifications

• Deep, hands-on experience with distributed data systems such as databases or query engines
• Fluency in consensus, replication, partitioning, and consistency models
• Proficiency in Go or Java at a production level
• Experience with performance profiling and understanding of system internals
• Willingness to be on-call for the systems you build and operate
