Job Summary
Working remotely on a contract basis, the Backend Reliability Engineer will maintain and operate high-volume backend services, triage incidents, and ensure system reliability using tools like Kubernetes and GCP.
Key responsibilities
- Respond to and triage alerts for maintenance-mode services, performing necessary fixes and escalating issues as needed
- Keep services updated with dependency updates, security patches, and infrastructure upgrades on a quarterly cycle
- Write and maintain clear documentation and runbooks for all services in scope, ensuring an accurate service catalog
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Hands-on experience with Java and/or Python backend services
- Proficiency in Kubernetes and a major cloud provider, preferably GCP
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools such as PagerDuty, Grafana, and Prometheus/PromQL
- Ability to work asynchronously with distributed teams and utilize AI coding tools for maintenance tasks
