Bariatric Coder

Job Summary

To support bariatric surgery partner organizations, the PRN Bariatric Coder will perform professional-fee coding remotely, translating clinic and operative documentation into accurate claims data while ensuring compliance and reducing denials.

Key responsibilities

• Review and assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM codes for various bariatric procedures and related services
• Apply compliance guidelines, payer-specific policies, and maintain documentation standards to support medical necessity
• Participate in quality audits and feedback sessions, identifying trends in denials and coding issues for escalation

Required qualifications

• Active professional coding credential in good standing (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCS-P)
• Minimum of two years of recent bariatric or surgical professional-fee coding experience
• Experience with major EHR and encoder platforms (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
• Strong knowledge of CPT, HCPCS Level II, ICD-10-CM, and surgical modifiers
• Located in and authorized to work in the United States with a secure HIPAA-compliant workspace
