Job Summary
To support a vital mission in AI safety, the full-time remote Biology Specialist will review flagged biological queries, apply scientific judgment to differentiate between harmless research and potential misuse, and generate precise labels to train automated safety filters.
Key responsibilities:
- Conduct first-line evaluation of automated detection flags related to biological threat vectors
- Distinguish legitimate scientific work from requests seeking weaponization or harm pathways
- Document findings and prepare structured escalations for ambiguous or high-risk cases
Required qualifications:
- Graduate-level degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Synthetic Biology, Biosecurity, or a related life-sciences discipline
- 1-3 years of practical laboratory, research, or analytical experience in a biological discipline or biosecurity setting
- Strong understanding of virological and microbiological fundamentals and containment protocols (BSL-2+)
- Ability to articulate scientific reasoning concisely in documentation
- Based in the United States with unrestricted work authorization (Texas residency preferred)
