California Licensed Mortgage Underwriter

Job Summary

Seeking an entrepreneurial California Licensed Mortgage Underwriter, the full-time position will underwrite residential mortgage files end to end, ensuring compliance and efficiency while collaborating with customers and internal teams in a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Underwrite residential mortgage files across various product types, reviewing credit, income, assets, and collateral against guidelines
• Issue clear conditions and manage escalations to ensure quality control and reduce unnecessary submission turns
• Regularly assess and enhance Underwriting Systems to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in underwriting across Conventional, Jumbo, Non-QM, and Government loan types
• Experience in a fintech environment related to mortgage products is strongly preferred
• Expert-level knowledge of the mortgage lending process and federal/state regulatory guidelines
• Ability to oversee and manage relationships with 3rd party fulfillment partners
• Strong analytical skills with a focus on compliance and performance optimization
