Certified HIM Coding Editor

Job Summary

As a vital member of the Coding Quality team, the remote Certified HIM Coding Editor will review coding quality alerts and billing edits for hospital and outpatient encounters, ensuring accuracy and compliance while resolving coding denials.

Key responsibilities

• Verifying accuracy of CPT and diagnosis codes for complex procedures and encounters
• Assisting in the resolution of billing edits that prevent final billing of patient claims
• Serving as a liaison among coders, management, and medical staff to clarify documentation issues and ensure compliance with coding initiatives

Required qualifications

• Completion of an approved coding program or graduation from a Health Information Management program
• Five years of coding experience in an acute care hospital environment
• Certification from AHIMA (e.g., RHIT, RHIA, CCS) or AAPC (e.g., CPC, CPC-H)
• Advanced knowledge of coding, abstracting skills, and reimbursement principles
• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
