Certified Hospital Inpatient Coder

Job Summary

As a full-time remote Certified Hospital Inpatient Coder, the successful candidate will apply extensive knowledge in assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for complex hospital inpatient services, while also training new team members and participating in special projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes for inpatient services based on clinical documentation
• Clarify physician documentation through a facility-established query process and ensure compliance with coding guidelines
• Function as a subject matter expert, assisting and training less experienced team members

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Five years of experience in hospital inpatient coding with ICD-10 and MS-DRG
• Certification from a recognized body, such as CCS, CPC, or RHIT
• Thorough understanding of data quality impacts on reimbursement across medical specialties
• Experience with automated patient care and coding systems
