Job Summary
Working remotely, the full-time Senior Certified Inpatient Coding Specialist will review and abstract inpatient medical records, ensuring accurate medical code assignment for diagnoses and procedures while maintaining compliance with federal regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical record documentation to identify and accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 coding conventions
- Query physicians for clarity on documentation when code assignments are ambiguous or unclear
- Maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards, achieving a 92% to 95% success rate in ICD-10 and DRG assignments
Required qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in Health Information Management or a related field preferred
- Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) or other relevant coding certifications from AHIMA or AAPC required
- Five years of inpatient hospital coding experience required
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding
- Experience coding in a level 1 trauma facility or academic teaching facility preferred
