Certified Inpatient Coding Specialist

Job Summary

To support the revenue cycle, the full-time Certified Inpatient Coding Specialist will review medical records to accurately assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes and Medicare Severity Diagnosis Related Groups (MS-DRG), ensuring compliance with regulations while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Reviews medical record documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 codes and MS-DRGs, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and federal regulations
• Collaborates with Clinical Documentation Specialists and medical staff to ensure completeness of documentation for accurate coding
• Monitors Discharged Not Billed accounts to ensure timely processing of inpatient accounts through the revenue cycle

Required qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
• Successful completion of the Coder Proficiency Exam (pre-hire)
• Licensure as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding conventions and health information systems
