To support efficient hospital operations, the full-time Certified Medical Coder will review, abstract, and assign medical codes for professional services, ensuring compliance with regulations while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes accurately and productively
- Reviews and applies coding edits, ensuring compliance with coding and billing regulations
- Provides coding information to healthcare staff and clarifies documentation as needed
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; higher-level degree may satisfy this requirement
- Certification from AHIMA or AAPC is required
- At least 12 months of experience in hospital coding
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT coding
- Successful completion of the UNC HCS Hospital Outpatient Coder Proficiency Test
