Job Summary
To support the Duke Cancer Institute, the full-time Certified Oncology Data Specialist will abstract and code medical data from electronic medical records in compliance with established standards, while working remotely from specified states.
Key responsibilities:
- Abstract and code a wide range of medical data related to cancer diagnosis, treatment, and patient outcomes
- Maintain adherence to state and national data management protocols and participate in the development of coding policies
- Research and resolve complex coding issues while assisting with special projects as required
Required qualifications:
- Oncology Data Specialist certification is required
- Preferred associate degree in Cancer Registry Management or Health Information Management
- At least 2 years of experience as an Oncology Data Specialist or Cancer/Tumor Registrar
- Proficiency in Facility Oncology Registry Data Standards (FORDS), ICD-10 Coding, and AJCC TNM staging
- Working knowledge of Oncology Registry software and EPIC EMR
