Job Summary
To ensure accurate and timely coding of medical records, the full-time Certified Outpatient Coder will assign ICD-10 diagnoses and CPT-4 procedure codes for various outpatient encounters, working remotely while adhering to compliance and reimbursement standards.
Key responsibilities
- Assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes to outpatient visits, including Emergency Room and ancillary services, for accurate billing and compliance
- Monitor daily work to maintain coding quality and productivity rates, ensuring timely processing within established timeframes
- Comply with AHIMA ethical coding standards and support organizational goals while performing additional assigned duties
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Formal ICD-10-CM and CPT training
- 6 months to 2 years of outpatient coding experience in a facility healthcare setting
- Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
- Preferred associate or bachelor's degree
