Certified Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support outpatient care, the part-time Certified Outpatient Coder will analyze clinical documentation to assign appropriate ICD-CM and CPT codes, ensuring coding accuracy and compliance with guidelines while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical records to determine and assign correct ICD-CM and CPT codes, including modifiers
• Verify documentation to support assigned codes and assist in resolving incomplete chart documentation
• Participate in coding audits and maintain a coding accuracy rate of at least 95% for optimal reimbursement

Required qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of ICD-CM and CPT coding systems and third-party payer requirements
• Medical coding certification preferred, with training in medical terminology from an accredited program
• Three years of medical abstraction and outpatient coding experience preferred
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively
