Job Summary
Supporting Veterans Affairs medical centers, the full-time Certified Outpatient Medical Coder will code outpatient encounters, including clinic visits and ancillary services, while working remotely and maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Key responsibilities
- Code outpatient encounters using ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS Level II, ensuring compliance with E/M guidelines
- Review documentation and enter codes in the VistA Patient Care Encounter package, maintaining at least 95% accuracy
- Assess billability of encounters and flag any duplicates or errors prior to billing
Required qualifications
- An active CPC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, or CPC-H credential
- At least 2 years of recent outpatient coding experience
- Completion of an accredited coding, HIM, or health information technician program
- Formal training in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and reimbursement methods
- Proficiency with an industry-standard encoder and knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and NCCI edits
