Job Summary
To support advocacy efforts at the African Union level, a remote Consultant for Family Language Mapping will conduct a systematic analysis of family-related language across African Union human rights instruments, identifying rights-based definitions and producing recommendations for feminist advocacy.
Key responsibilities
- Review and adapt existing mapping methodology to the African Union context, defining inclusion criteria and search terms
- Systematically extract and code excerpts referencing family from relevant AU documents, assessing their political and normative implications
- Draft a comprehensive mapping report with findings, trend analysis, and concrete recommendations for AU negotiating contexts
Required qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or higher) in law, human rights, gender studies, African studies, political science, or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of African Union human rights mechanisms and the Maputo Protocol
- Prior experience in legal, policy, or content analysis of normative documents
- Experience applying feminist or rights-based analytical frameworks to legal texts
- Strong written communication skills in English; proficiency in French, Arabic, and/or Portuguese is desirable
