Design Lead
Job Summary
Leading human-centered design initiatives, the full-time Design Lead will serve as the primary UX research and design authority for the data.CMS.gov platform, overseeing user research, interaction design, and design system governance in a fully remote capacity.
Key responsibilities
- Lead human-centered design activities, ensuring design decisions are evidence-based and refined through user testing
- Plan and facilitate user research activities, coordinating with CMS on timelines and managing scheduling
- Translate research findings into actionable design artifacts and own the evolution of the data.CMS.gov design system
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human-centered design or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in HCD and user research for public-facing data websites
- Demonstrated experience leading design on a public-facing federal government digital platform
- Expertise in Figma for interaction design and design system management
- Strong working knowledge of Section 508 compliance and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
