Director of Catastrophe Modeling

Job Summary

Leading catastrophe risk analytics for the Central Underwriting organization, the full-time salaried Director of Catastrophe Modeling will manage a team of analysts and developers, oversee technical execution of cat modeling, and translate model outputs into underwriting guidance while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Build and mentor a team of catastrophe modeling analysts and technical developers, setting technical standards and priorities
• Oversee the delivery of portfolio rollups and modeling outputs to external carriers and reinsurance partners, ensuring accuracy and consistency
• Lead research initiatives to enhance advanced analytics capabilities and evaluate emerging modeling science for applicability to the portfolio

Required qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in catastrophe modeling or portfolio risk analytics, including prior leadership experience
• Proficiency in RMS and/or AIR Touchstone, with strong SQL and automation skills in Python, R, or VBA
• Experience translating catastrophe model outputs into underwriting or portfolio management decisions
• Proven ability to lead teams through real-time catastrophe event response
• Experience coordinating portfolio rollups and delivering outputs to carriers or reinsurance partners
