Director of Design

Job Summary

Leading a senior design team, the full-time remote Director of Design will manage a group of experienced designers, drive design initiatives tied to company strategy, and enhance product development processes to improve user experiences for low-income Americans accessing government benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of seven designers across product design, content design, and design research
• Advocate for addressing design debt by defining its importance to users and the business, and prioritize solutions
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to refine product development processes and enhance decision-making

Required qualifications

• Experience managing a product design team at a consumer software startup or scaled pro-sumer startup
• Recent work at the staff or principal IC product designer level within the last three years
• Proven ability to manage a team of at least five designers, including hiring and performance management
• Fluency in consumer software patterns such as growth loops and behavior-based monetization
• Working knowledge of AI-native design practices and tools, developed through hands-on experience
