Director of Engineering

Job Summary

Leading the engineering teams responsible for Life360's critical platforms, the full-time remote Director of Engineering will set technical direction, develop engineering managers, and ensure the reliability and scalability of systems that support millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the engineering teams behind Life360's critical services, ensuring systems are reliable, secure, and scalable
• Anticipate architectural bottlenecks and scaling challenges, modernizing legacy systems while balancing business needs
• Establish high standards for availability, performance, and incident response, fostering a culture of ownership and accountability within the engineering organization

Required qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in leadership roles managing engineering teams
• Proven track record in backend or platform engineering at scale, with experience in distributed systems serving millions of users
• Experience in developing and coaching engineering managers and translating company strategy into technical plans
• Hands-on technical expertise in cloud infrastructure and distributed systems, preferably with AWS
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
