Director of Software Engineering

Job Summary

Leading the content management systems engineering organization, the full-time remote Director of Software Engineering will manage the technical strategy, architecture, and delivery of Reuters' CMS platform while providing hands-on technical guidance and building a high-performing engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and long-term roadmap for the CMS platform, focusing on scalability, performance, and cost management
• Establish uptime and reliability standards for the production platform, while guiding the modern web rendering strategy
• Partner with editorial stakeholders to translate workflows into platform requirements and lead the teams responsible for platform delivery and production support

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 10+ years in software engineering with 4+ years managing engineers and leading multiple teams
• Proven ownership of a production platform serving external customers at scale with experience in Agile methodologies and DevOps practices
• Deep knowledge of AWS, serverless architecture, and distributed systems, along with modern web rendering techniques
• Experience with microservices architecture, containerization, and performance testing methodologies
