Director of TTS Research

Job Summary

Seeking a full-time Director of TTS Research, this remote role will manage the Text-to-Speech program, overseeing research strategy, model development, and team leadership to advance speech generation technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Own the TTS research and model roadmap, determining impactful technical directions and recognizing when to pivot strategies
• Drive advancements in neural audio modeling, prosody, multilingual speech, and evaluation metrics to achieve measurable production gains
• Lead and develop a team of researchers and tech leads, ensuring high technical standards while fostering decision-making at all levels

Required qualifications

• Deep expertise in modern TTS, speech generation, or audio generative modeling with a proven track record in training large-scale neural models
• Strong command of the speech-generation stack and understanding of challenges related to naturalness, expressiveness, and robustness
• Experience in setting research direction amidst uncertainty and effectively prioritizing experiments and resource allocation
• Proven leadership experience with researchers and technical teams, influencing direction while maintaining technical involvement
• AI as a core operational mode, with insights into its limitations in speech research and the ability to communicate technical tradeoffs effectively
