Executive Director of Underwriting

Job Summary

Leading a team of underwriters, the full-time salaried Executive Director of Underwriting will oversee the appraisal and underwriting of large, complex individual life insurance cases while acting as a key client contact and collaborating with various departments to enhance underwriting processes and client relationships in a remote setting.

Key responsibilities

• Appraises and underwrites individual life insurance risks with approval authority ranging from $10,000,000 to $20,000,000, ensuring competitive and profitable quotes
• Leads and develops a team of underwriters, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and maintaining quality and consistency in underwriting practices
• Serves as the primary client contact for business development, collaborating with multiple departments to address client requests and ensure adherence to underwriting philosophy

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent related work experience (minimum 8 years)
• 10+ years of reinsurance underwriting experience or 15+ years of direct and/or brokerage underwriting experience
• 5+ years of marketing experience
• Intermediate skills in Word, SQL/Query, and Excel
• Highly advanced knowledge of insurance principles, underwriting policies, and risk analysis procedures
