Illinois Licensed Inpatient Coder
Job Summary
To support a world-class academic health-care system, the full-time Illinois Licensed Inpatient Coder will code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from inpatient and outpatient medical records remotely, with a weekend requirement on Saturdays and Sundays.
Key responsibilities
- Assigns ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT codes for inpatient and outpatient medical records
- Abstracts key data elements for billing and reviews records for clinical pertinence
- Communicates with medical staff to ensure accurate assignment of diagnoses and procedures
Required qualifications
- Associate degree
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Thorough knowledge of ICD-10CM/PCS and CPT coding systems, DRG systems, and reimbursement regulations
- Familiarity with hospital information systems and electronic medical records
- Understanding of medical-legal rules regarding confidentiality and release of medical information
