Lead Backend Developer
Job Summary
Taking technical ownership of the core platform, the full-time Lead Backend Developer will design scalable backend architecture, mentor engineers, and drive architectural decisions while working remotely or from Cyprus.
Key responsibilities
- Design and evolve scalable backend architecture and core platform services
- Lead technical initiatives from solution design and estimation through production release
- Mentor developers, support onboarding, and provide technical leadership within the team
Required qualifications
- 5-7+ years of commercial PHP development experience with strong knowledge of modern PHP (8.0+)
- Solid hands-on experience with Yii2 and designing scalable backend systems
- Strong MySQL experience, including schema design, indexing, and performance tuning
- Proven experience leading development teams or major technical initiatives
- Experience mentoring engineers and supporting their professional growth
