Lead Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Leading a team of backend engineers, the full-time Lead Backend Engineer will manage team processes, mentor staff, and engage in hands-on development while collaborating cross-functionally in a remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers, setting goals and supporting career development
• Review pull requests, own backend architecture evolution, and ensure system reliability and incident response
• Collaborate with game design, marketing, and production to align engineering with the creative vision and communicate status to leadership

Required qualifications

• 6+ years of professional backend experience, preferably in games/live-service development
• 2+ years of experience managing or leading engineers
• Strong skills in Kotlin or Java, with familiarity in Kubernetes, Grafana, and Terraform
• Experience scaling backend systems for a global audience and addressing related debugging and monitoring challenges
• Solid understanding of software architecture and design patterns
