Job Summary
Supporting the advanced Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project, the remote contract Mechanical Design Engineer will guide nuclear mechanical components from initial design through fabrication and final acceptance, ensuring safety-critical components are compliant and reliable.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and review mechanical component specifications, engineering calculations, and detailed fabrication drawings
- Oversee vendor manufacturing and resolve technical issues during component fabrication and fit-up
- Review and approve final quality data packages, ensuring compliance with project standards
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- At least 5 years of mechanical design experience in the nuclear or a similarly regulated sector
- Deep working knowledge of ASME Section III (Class 1, 2, or 3) and nuclear quality assurance standards (NQA-1 / 10 CFR 50 Appendix B)
- Demonstrated expertise in GD&T (ASME Y14.5), welding, and materials
- Experience with vendor technical oversight and inspection criteria
