Job Summary
To support accurate coding for outpatient hospital encounters, the full-time New Jersey Licensed Outpatient Coder will assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and modifiers while working remotely and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and payer policies.
Key responsibilities
- Codes medical record documentation for various outpatient services, including Emergency Room and Same Day Surgical records
- Collaborates with Clinical Documentation Improvement and billing teams to optimize documentation and reimbursement
- Maintains compliance with medical coding policies and stays updated on outpatient coding changes
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certified Physician Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) preferred
- Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Experience using an encoder and EMR systems
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment under pressure
