Outpatient Coding Specialist

Job Summary

Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the Outpatient Coding Specialist will review medical record documentation to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT IV codes for various outpatient visits while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and maintaining productivity standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review medical records and assign appropriate codes using 3M software for various outpatient work types
• Perform medical necessity checks for Medicare and other payers, ensuring timely and compliant processing of outpatient claims
• Maintain established productivity requirements and stay updated on CMS guidelines to ensure accurate claim submissions

Required qualifications

• Vocational/Technical Degree in Health Information Management or Coding Certification
• Completion of Coding Curriculum with at least one year of previous coding experience
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Experience with coding software tools and electronic medical records
• Active certification (RHIA, RHIT, CCA) or the requirement to obtain COC or CCS within one year of hire
