Job Summary
To support a growing pathology team, the part-time remote Pathology Data Specialist will extract and validate data from pathology reports, coordinate the entry of standardized diagnostic information, and ensure compliance with CAP/CLIA standards.
Key responsibilities
- Review surgical pathology reports and abstract diagnostic elements such as tumor type and stage
- Serve as a liaison with the pathology/medical team for diagnostic clarifications and escalate medical questions as needed
- Coordinate accurate entry of structured diagnostic data into laboratory information systems and support continuous improvement initiatives
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Histotechnology, Cytotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Health Information Management, or a closely related field
- 2+ years of experience in a pathology informatics, histology, oncology data, or molecular diagnostics environment
- Demonstrated experience abstracting pathology and oncology data and entering structured information into databases
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems (EHR/EMR) and laboratory information systems (LIS/NIS)
- Familiarity with ICD-10-CM, AJCC TNM staging, and cancer registry coding preferred
