Job Summary
To support strategic payments partnerships, the contract Payments Counsel - Licensed Attorney will draft and negotiate high-value commercial agreements with financial institutions and payment service providers while working remotely for 40 hours per week over a 6-month duration.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, and own commercial agreements with banks, card networks, payment processors, and digital wallet providers
- Support the client's agentic commerce initiatives by structuring agreements for transactions through AI agents
- Identify and assess legal, commercial, and operational risks, providing practical recommendations to stakeholders
Required qualifications
- 7+ years of strong commercial and transactional experience at a top law firm, in-house, or both
- JD and active license to practice in at least one US jurisdiction
- Ability to draft complex agreements from first principles without relying on templates
- Experience in payments, fintech, banking, or processing is a plus, but strong commercial lawyers without this experience are encouraged to apply
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
