Photonics Layout Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking an energetic and highly motivated Photonics Layout Engineer for a full-time position responsible for designing, laying out, and verifying photonic integrated circuits (PIC) for foundry fabrication, while collaborating across hardware and design enablement teams in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain photonic layouts from individual components to complex circuits using passive and active components
• Drive foundry tapeouts, implementing layouts and performing physical verification, including design rule checking (DRC) and layout versus schematic (LVS)
• Develop and maintain layout infrastructure and automation tools to enhance layout quality and workflow efficiency

Required qualifications

• Master's degree, PhD, or equivalent in Electrical, Computer Engineering, Material Science, or Physics
• 2 years of relevant work or academic research experience in integrated photonics and layout
• Experience with photonic layout tools such as GDSFactory, Synopsys, or Cadence
• Strong Python programming skills for layout generation, automation, or numerical analysis
• Familiarity with silicon photonic manufacturing processes and tapeout workflows
