As the Principal Biology Specialist, this full-time remote position will lead a specialized domain pod focused on preventing biological threats from AI systems, overseeing a team of specialists, and providing expert guidance on dual-use escalations and biological risk assessments.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as the senior technical authority for high-consequence cases and complex customer appeals
- Set standards for distinguishing legitimate scientific inquiry from potential misuse in biodefense and biosecurity
- Deliver peer-reviewed labels to validate automated AI safety classifiers and advise on evolving biotechnology capabilities
Required qualifications:
- Advanced Degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Synthetic Biology, Biosecurity, or a related discipline
- 9+ years of professional experience in biodefense, biosecurity policy, or public health threat surveillance
- Exceptional fluency in life-science research protocols and dual-use expertise
- Deep familiarity with national and international biosecurity frameworks and regulations
- Proven track record of leading technical teams in high-stakes environments
