Principal Software Engineer
Job Summary
To support multiple engineering teams in a remote capacity, the full-time Principal Software Development Engineer will lead the technical strategy and architecture for back-end platforms, mentor engineers, and solve complex technical challenges while ensuring systems are scalable and secure.
Key responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term technical strategy and architecture for back-end platforms and services
- Lead the design and implementation of high-throughput APIs and data pipelines that support various Zillow products
- Mentor and coach senior engineers, elevating engineering practices across multiple teams
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience in back-end or distributed systems
- Experience leading large-scale services in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership and influence architectural direction across teams
- Strong background in designing and operating high-availability and high-volume services
