Principal Software Engineer
Job Summary
Leading the transformation of high-scale search solutions, the full-time Principal Software Engineer for the Jira Platform Search team will architect and drive the transition from monolithic services to modern microservices, ensuring high availability and performance across a global multi-tenant cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end technical delivery for complex architectural designs and oversee successful production launches
- Define technical roadmaps and execution strategies for large-scale engineering initiatives
- Lead high-impact code reviews and establish scalable architectural standards across new projects
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years in software/technology architect roles with a strong understanding of the end-to-end SDLC; Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred
- Deep production expertise in OpenSearch or Elasticsearch, with a focus on Lucene indexing and query-execution internals
- Experience in designing tenant isolation and capacity strategies for distributed search systems
- Proven improvements to search latency and infrastructure efficiency, demonstrated through measurable outcomes
- Strong technical depth in distributed architectures and cloud-native services, including experience with AWS or GCP
