Production Editor

Job Summary

Managing conversion titles in a part-time, remote contract role, the Production Editor will prepare materials for publication, oversee the editorial process, and ensure quality control for both interior and cover designs.

Key responsibilities

• Handle production editorial work to convert fiction and nonfiction titles from hardcover to trade paperback
• Copyedit new and revised materials, hire freelance copyeditors and proofreaders, and review their work
• Collaborate with various departments to manage updates, resolve issues, and ensure adherence to schedules

Required qualifications

• Two to three years' experience as a production editor, preferably in adult trade fiction/nonfiction
• Strong working knowledge of grammar and punctuation, including expertise with the Chicago Manual of Style
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, anticipating problems and prioritizing tasks
• Meticulous attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects
• Experience with digital tracking systems and best practices for file management
